Following a two-year stint at the Coast Guard Academy and completion of a dual major in Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Georgia, Chuck’s career was launched at and during the heyday of Ross Perot’s EDS. While there, he applied the discipline of his academy experience and the knowledge of his academic curriculum to the burgeoning new industry of computer software development and systems implementation.
He followed that rocket-launched start-up with a return to his native Georgia, working primarily with small to medium sized custom software development companies in the Atlanta area. He consistently led high-profile projects for the development and implementation of business systems in the insurance, finance, and telecommunications industries.
He first attained executive status as Executive Vice President at Essential Solutions, a vendor of Human Resource Management systems in the late 1980’s. He followed success there with leadership positions at Cooperative Healthcare Networks, Equifax, and as COO of Aelera, Inc. where he was instrumental in building the company from a staff of 4 to over 80 employees during the course of his 10 year engagement.
While at Aelera, Chuck led the efforts to locate sites for satellite offices for ‘home-shored’ technology development, ultimately selecting Savannah as the site of Aelera’s first satellite office, due primarily to the welcoming climate and resources for knowledge-based businesses.
Ultimately, with his 30 years of information technology and business management experience, Chuck made the leap to applying his efforts to community/business/higher education development projects. In this role, he has served on advisory boards at Georgia Southern University, Savannah State University, and Armstrong Atlantic State University. He also served the Savannah Economic Development Authority as a consultant, marketing the Savannah business and education community to the southeastern United States technology community.
Chuck formally joined SEDA in July of 2007 and shortly thereafter took over the reins of the leadership of the Creative Coast Alliance as it was reorganized from the former Creative Coast Initiative and the Coastal-BETA organizations.
Chuck and his wife Linda can often be found exploring coastal Georgia’s historic landmarks, browsing local shops for special items, enjoying diverse local eateries, navigating nearby waterways, and generally embracing Savannah while easing into their new life in the community.
