After leaving Savannah to attend the University of Richmond in Virginia, Fitz pursued his interest in technology in numerous positions at Perot Systems, Crestar Bank, and Compaq. Upon returning to Savannah, he finished his degree in Economics and Mathematics at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Fitz jumped into The Creative Coast Initiative with both feet in the summer of 2004 and has been the keeper of the flame – the brand and the voice – ever since. While always working in wide-ranging capacities, Fitz’s main focus is actively marketing Savannah as The Creative Coast to creative and technical, higher wage businesses outside of the region.
Fitz has directed a myriad of projects within TCCa; from the first regional TechFest to the Governor’s opening event for Inc Magazine’s 500 fastest growing companies. He directs the organizations signature event – The Innovation Awards, held each fall, drawing close to 500 of the “who’s who” in the fields of technology, design and development, including the non-profit, education and government sectors, to honor the best and brightest innovators in and around Savannah’s Creative Coast.
He manages the design and development of the TCCa web presence and portal – the organization’s core communications vehicle for local constituents and external target markets that has become the one-stop-shop for new or relocated knowledge-based companies in Savannah.
With a background in analysis, Fitz is also the resident number cruncher at TCCa. He produces the TCCa Annual Economic Analysis, using a custom methodology that has earned the recognition of the International Economic Development Council.
A graduate of Leadership Savannah, Fitz is involved in local economic and community development projects such as the Poverty Reduction Initiative, the Savannah Tech Community Council and is the co-founder of The cSpot, Savannah’s networking organization for creative and progressive professionals.
