Systems Analyst

Summary: I have worked as a computer programmer, analyst, tester and team lead, on platforms ranging from Mainframes to Unix servers to PCs for twenty years prior to the internet bubble. I have experience with embedded C++ in avionics and Java EJBs using LDAP. I have also programmed in Oracle PL/SQL, Sybase Transact/SQL, SQL, perl, awk, sed, c, FORTRAN-77, PL/I, and assembler. I took a career detour to get an FAA mechanics license (A&P) and a multiengine commercial pilot license.

Education:
Received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in April 1984 with a minor in Mathematics and a strong background in computers from the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH.

11/03 – Present
Received an FAA A&P certificate in December 2005 from Georgia Aviation and Technical College in Eastman, GA. I am currently teaching Avionics at an FAA school for mechanics.

09/02-11/03	Universal Avionics Systems Corp.	Norcross, GA
Redesigned prototype display software to use MVC architecture (Model/View/Controller). Coded the new architecture using C++. The software runs embedded on a Hitachi processor board driving a color LCD display in an avionics box which tunes ARINC and CSDB radios via serial buses. Wrote the software requirements document for FAR Part 25 certification. Worked with hardware engineers to isolate hardware failures. Mentored employees on writing test plans and problem reports.

01/02-04/02	Intelitix	Norcross, GA
Designed, coded and documented a Java process to authorize user permissions to web pages for a ticketing application using an LDAP server. The process intercepts JSP page requests on an existing JBoss application to grant or deny the user access to a page via a set of permissions stored on an OpenLDAP server. The permissions are granted and revoked from the users via user groups which are assigned to web pages. Also, wrote requirements for the administration of the permissions in the LDAP server. (Java 1.4, OpenLDAP 2.0.23, JBoss 2.4.3, Tomcat 3.2.3)

02/01-04/01	Siemens AG	Alpharetta, GA
Systems Analyst on a pilot project for an eCommerce website. Hired short-term just before site went live to help development team achieve existing deadlines. Major task was to design and code an update process for the WebSphere (NetCommerce) Product Catalog. This process extracted product and category data from an i2 hierarchical object database (Aspect), created the corresponding WebSphere relational table formats, and updated the WebSphere product catalog on a nightly basis using SQL and SQL loader scripts (Oracle 8i database). Also wrote ftp client and encryption client in Java for use in existing Java business processes. Automated a Visual Basic database extract program to run nightly on an NT server. Wrote ksh scripts to automate transfer of data files between M/F and Unix server for order information. Mentored employees on Java, SQL, sed, awk, Unix.

10/00-12/00	Serengeti Software	Atlanta, GA
Systems Analyst for a small startup company. Redesigned and rewrote an administration GUI for a Loyalty Engine. (GUI had been inherited from overseas company in malfunctioning state - though parts were already in production.) GUI consisted of Java Swing clients calling servlets across a URL Connection using a proprietary protocol, on a BEA WebLogic Application Server. Servlets acted as HTTP front-end to EJBs (both CMP and BMP) to expose an Oracle database. Improved functionality of GUI and performance of EJBs using verbal requirements from customer. Maintained servlets for production API which served up responses in XML based on database queries. (Development was on Win2000; deployment was on Sun Solaris)

3/00-8/00	MetLife Atlanta, GA
Systems Analyst on a pilot project to create EJB-based intranet security components. Wrote new APIs for EJB components to retrieve user profile information from a NetScape LDAP directory (4.11). Installed and deployed LDAP directory in production environment. Discovered bug in IBMs LDAP JNDI provider package concerning expired passwords by decompiling Java code, wrote workaround code to modify LDAP passwords using NetScape Java SDK and worked with IBM to isolate the problem. Responsible for administration of Visual Source Safe repository and deployment of security components into the production environment. Wrote and deployed GUI test client for team using Swing components with IBMs Visual Age IDE. Mentored employees in Java, WebSphere Application Server 3.02, NetScape LDAP server 4.11, Awk and Korn shell. Worked closely with IBM marketers and developers to isolate problems with Stateful Session Beans in WebSphere Application Server 3.02. Wrote prototype code using RSA BSAFE SDK to retrieve certificates from a Keon server. Created and maintained acceptance test environments on Compaq NT servers for end users of security components. Facilitated architectural discussions to gather requirements for single sign-on project.

9/99-3/00	SunTrust Bank	Atlanta, GA
Systems Analyst on Web-enabled banking application. Coded web pages using Java, JavaScript and HTML on a NetDynamics Application server. Installed Netscape 3.63 Webserver, NetDynamics 5.0 Application server, DB2Connect and a NetDynamics PAC for CICS on a Sun Sparc server. Currently serving as defect coordinator. Responsible for evaluating defects from test team, estimating amount of work required for fix, assigning fixes to FTEs and mentoring FTEs in Java. Also responsible for labeling software releases using Visual Source Safe and deploying software releases to Test and QA servers.

8/98-7/99	BellSouth Applied Technologies	Norcross, GA
Coded a graphical user interface in Java, for a billing system, which displayed customer information on a web browser, across an intranet, allowing users to quickly respond to customer billing queries. The displays were written using Java Servlets (JSDK 2.0 on Jrun servlet engine), which created dynamic HTML, based on billing data retrieved via JDBC, from an Oracle database. Modified IDL for backend CORBA server for the billing operations interface. Wrote Korn shell scripts to deploy the billing system elements (GUI, Corba server). Prior to that, wrote SQL queries to implement new billing functionality and rewrote existing SQL queries to improve performance for an interim internet billing system used by BellSouth's Dot Net subsidiary. The system was written in SQL/Sybase wrapped by Korn shell scripts.

2/85-8/98	Independent Consultant
Systems Analyst at various Fortune 500 companies including: Alltel, CDC, P&G, MCI, S3 Technologies, Integral Systems, and Computer Sciences Corporation.

Computer O/S Experience: Sun SPARC (Solaris), HP-9000 (Unix), DEC VAX (VMS 4.4), IBM 3090 (MVS/XA), CDC Cyber (NOS), UNIVAC 90/80 (VS/9), Data General MV/15000 (AOS/VS, AOS/RT-32), Data General NOVA (RDOS), MODCOMP Classic (MAX IV).

Web Site Developer seeking entry level position

My name is Brian Ages and I have spent the last 5 years creating Web Sites for friends and business associates. While I am "self taught" my sites have done well and produced increased web based income for everyone involved.

I am at the point I would like to learn and grow in a corporate environment. My experiences as both a Realtor and small business owner have aided me significantly in understanding a clients needs and translating that into their web site.

My age and experience has provid...e me with three key ingredients.

1) The ability to work as a team player.
2) Fast learner with the ability to listen.
3) Focus and accomplish the task at hand.

Web Site Developer (Projects and Experience)

* http://www.tybeeislandrentals.com
* http://www.tybeerents.com
* http://www.tybee-dolphin-tours.com
* http://www.tybeejetski.com

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES

Platforms: Windows XP/Vista
Languages: HTML, XHTML, XML, JavaScript
Tools: Dreamweaver, Coffecup FTP, Photoshop, FLV Converter

Experience Detail:

Each of the above sites were started from scratch with a different target audience and goal in mind. The use of video and slide shows aided in the "grab and hold time" and the use of GPS mapping solved other issues on Tybee.

I did have to contract out the .php side on two of the sites but I created everything else including the keywords and content to aid in the search propagation.

I fully understand that my experience is entry level and I hope that it shows my ability to learn, overcome, and move forward in the future.
