Dimensions Gallery located at 412 MLK Jr. Blvd. will be hosting the opening reception for the next show, “Urbanity” on March 15, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Photographing local musicians and DJ’s, Kim Malkowski captures the energy of each artist, their music and surroundings. Her use of alternative photography, color, and innovative compositions portray the exciting and celebratory atmosphere of the musicians. Her work is reflective of the urban high fashion photography of David La Chapelle. Originally from Chicago, Malkowski is a senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Kim’s love of hip-hop started at fourteen when she was given a copy of Talib Kweli and DJ Hi Teks’ Reflection Eternal. With this album, she discovered true hip-hop that was positive and life-affirming. She specializes in music photography and photographs for local area bands Dope Sandwich, Street Circus Symphony, Dinko’s Bones, and The Co-workers. Along with photographer Matt Schreiber, Kim is extremely influenced by music, especially hip-hop. Her work captures the passion and emotion that these artists have.

412 MLK BLVD from 10pm-1 am. Dimensions Gallery provides local and developing artists with a place to show case their visual works of art. This is important to developing artists who often lack the opportunity to display their work in a professional environment. Dimensions provides the artist with access to the public and provides the public with the opportunity to view and purchase works of art by emerging talent. The gallery specializes in displaying paintings, photography, 3 dimensional pieces and other works of art by undiscovered artists, students at SCAD and local schools. Dimensions Gallery is pleased to be located within the historic MLK/Montgomery Street Corridor. Representatives from SDRA, DBA, MMBA, WMBE, SCAD and some of our elected officials have been invited to attend this event.
