Rockin' Wine Dinner - with a cause

posted by laura quail

Police Foundation benefits announced

For those who love to dine with wine but consider the traditional wine dinner an ostentatious occasion, one might enjoy the excitement of a wine dinner for a cause with a rockin’ performance artist to spice up the night.

The Savannah Harbor Foundation will be hosting a Rock ‘n’ Roll Wine Dinner to benefit the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Foundation on Wednesday, April 9. The Police Foundation is utilized as a means to collect donations in an effort to further support public safety initiatives of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. The dinner will be hosted at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa in the Harbor Ballroom.

The reception will begin at 6:30 pm followed by a four course wine pairing dinner prepared by The Westin Savannah Harbor’s own Executive Chef Roger Michel at 7:00 pm with an assortment of wonderful wines from the Amizetta Vineyards in Napa Valley, California. The award-winning vineyard owned by Spencer and Amizetta Clark has been creating gold medal-worthy vintages since 1979.

Amizetta is renowned for its cabernet sauvignon grapes specific to the Napa Valley region. The awards recently bestowed upon the 2003 Vigneto and 2004 Complexity Meritage red wines include double gold medals from the 2007 Wine Fest International. These specific vintages, among other gold winning varietals, reflect the efforts of seasoned vintner Robert Egelhoff and the Clarks to produce high quality wine.

In addition to supplying the libations for the evening, Spencer Clark will also be rockin’ the house with tunes from his “Song Unsung” album. Clark has been playing guitar and composing since age 14. The music is reminiscent of classic rock compositions with a fusion of southern, blues and progressive notes.

This rockin’ experience will be a fun way for wine enthusiasts and rock lovers alike to enjoy a great meal, excellent wines and terrific tunes all for a great cause. Reservations will be accepted until Wednesday, April 2 and corporate sponsorship is available. Single RSVP will be $150 and $250 for couples.

Another exceptional opportunity to support the Police Foundation is just around the corner. Save the date for the Second Annual Police Foundation Golf Tournament on May 28. The event will be hosted at the exclusive Club at Savannah Harbor where competitors will have the chance to compete for great prizes and support a good cause. Sponsors are entitled to a team of four plus other sponsor benefits. Prices are as follows:

Platinum - $2500
Gold - $1500
Silver - $1000
Hole Sponsor - $500

The Savannah Harbor Foundation, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and the SCMPD joined forces last summer to launch the Police Foundation via a community Golf Tournament, which is now in its second year and continues to enjoy the support of these organizations.

Mark Spadoni, general manager of The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa, offered use of The Club at Savannah Harbor and The Westin for the fundraisers as an example of how area businesses can pull together to support this cause.

“Our police force continually works hard to support our community and they, in turn, deserve the support of the community,” Spadoni said. “We are pleased to be one of several businesses who have stepped up in support of our police department.”

The Savannah Harbor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) incorporated to support local children’s charities, as well as to celebrate the spirit of family through offering family-oriented events to the community, such at the Trees for Life, Gingerbread Village, and Holiday Concerts, which are all free and open to the public.
