Discover the Fun of "The Big Read" [Outloud, Take-Turns Reading] in Savannah Mall

posted by Sandy Traub

Savannah, GA (April 10, 2008) -- The Savannah Mall and Live Oak Public Library are pleased to announce The Big Read event from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Savannah Mall Center Court.

The Big Read is a National Endowment for the Humanities project focused on moving literature to the forefront of American culture. The main goal of the project is to encourage reluctant readers to give “literature” a try.

"One of the ways we want to attract reluctant readers and encourage them to read is with a ‘public’ reading," shares Senea Crystal, marketing manager at Savannah Mall. On Saturday, April 12, 2008, school children and adults will take turns reading passages from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the National Endowment for the Humanities Book of the Year.

In addition, other sources will be read -- poetry, the Bill of Rights and materials that not only help expose people to “literature” and Fahrenheit 451, but also celebrate our right to read and think without government or societal interference.

Immediately following The Big Read, the Savannah Children’s Choir will perform in Center Court. A special thanks goes to Savannah Piano for their generous support.
