SAVANNAH, Ga., April 28, 2008 – Gather up your favorite clubs, tees and gloves and get ready for the Second Annual Police Foundation Golf Tournament to be held on Wednesday, May 28. Save the Date for this exciting annual community fundraiser to benefit the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Foundation (SCMPF.)
The Savannah Harbor Foundation, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department joined forces in 2007 to launch the Police Foundation through community fundraisers including a Golf Tournament, which is now successfully in its second year.
Mark Spadoni, general manager of The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, has again this year offered use of The Club at Savannah Harbor for the fundraiser as an example of how area businesses can pull together to support this cause. Thanks to the Savannah Harbor Foundation, Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and donors, last year’s tournament brought in over $60,000 to fund the start of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Foundation.
The SCMPF acts as an independent nonprofit organization that collects funds and donations on behalf of the SCMPD, which as a government agency cannot accept contributions. The addition of this nonprofit to the Savannah community has shown how contributors, local businesses and area families are fully behind the police department’s public safety initiatives and are demonstrating that support.
Last year’s sponsors and competitors ranged from area business owners to local golf pros, with guests from the SCMPD. Funds from the 2007 tournament were used primarily to boost officer equipment and support new technologies. Police Chief Michael Berkow is also scheduling trips to investigative training and management schools for his officers, as part of the SCMPD’s overall plan to keep officers equipped and to make the Savannah community safer.
“Our police force continually works hard to support our community and they, in turn, deserve the support of the community,” Spadoni said. “We are pleased to be one of several businesses who have stepped up in support of our police department.” The tournament sponsors will be allowed a team of four players and will be competing for excellent prizes and a wonderful cause. Sponsorship levels and prices are as follows:
Platinum - $2500
Gold - $1500
Silver - $1000
Hole Sponsor - $500
