Savannah is a beautiful city with friendly and encouraging people interested in the fine arts, and we feel that The Savannah Children’s Theatre is a perfect fit to this community. We are the only children’s theatre in the area that offers public performances, classes and field trips, and the community has enjoyed what we have to offer. When SCT launched in 2004, the community was pleasantly surprised to find that our intended audience was not only targeted towards children, but towards citizens of all ages. The theatre uses many adult actors and musicians for their main stage productions. We feel that the quality of theatre for the public should exceed the expectations of any theatrical performance one might see in the city of Savannah . Because of this, our audience has grown in size immensely and consists of theatre patrons of all kinds. A large aspect of our audience development is contributed to first time theatre-goers who will take their children to productions that they think will just be of interest to those under the age of 12. However, after participation in The Savannah Children’s Theatre’s shows, that same audience realizes that we are targeting all members of the family and there is something enjoyable for all no matter what the age. This realization prompts them into loyal patronage. The friendly welcome has given us a firm platform on which to stand. That support has allowed us to try to advertise and intrigue an audience that would not normally be interested.
