Maxine Helmey was first exposed to watercolor in 1987 while living in Augusta, one of Georgia’s most beautiful cities. After studying under some of the most accomplished artists in the country, she became a serious artist. Maxine Helmey

Returning to her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, she continued to paint commissioned pieces and enjoyed teaching several classes a week. This gave her the freedom to paint different subjects and try new techniques.

In March 1998 she moved her home studio to the City Market Art Center in Savannah’s historic district. Her original paintings and giclee prints can be seen in her gallery in the Savannah City Market, upstairs in the Franklin South building.
