"the space between the sky and me"
The photographs that comprise
"the space between the sky and me"
have much in common with my fiction writing. They are loosely narrative, evocative of memory, perception, and the senses, and primarily concerned with the mythic and real relationship between woman and nature. In making this work, I am, in effect, lying down, closing my eyes, and going places in my head.
I lay down and I closed my eyes and went places in my head; some places
that I’ve been before and some that I’ve always wanted to go but never have.
I wandered along the ocean shore at night and looked out on the water. I saw the reflection of the moon and I thought of my grandmother and hoped that she could see it too. I roamed down long country dirt roads with no end. I searched for four leaf clovers and the luck that they would bring. I chased fireflies at dusk and just after the light left us. It was the light I was chasing. The hope out of the desolation. I found other roads to distant cities, some of myth and others of reality in foreign lands, and I took them. I felt free and open and proceeded without caution.
