Desotorow Gallery, 2427 De Soto Ave., presents “Haiku to Metal,” a juried show, on display July 24-29. An opening reception will be held July 24, 6-9 p.m. at Truspace, a Desotorow Gallery. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.
“Haiku to Metal,” a juried group jewelry show exploring the idea of viewing jewelry as poetry, is guest curated by Heather Lindsey Stewart. She notes, “This show should address not only the concept of viewing jewelry as poetry but also encompass techniques and materials new and old with a less is more concept. Like a haiku, the jewelry should convey form, content and its own language. These characteristics should be perceivable through its metal transformation.”
“Haiku to Metal” will feature work from the following artists: Lynn Ashworth, Matthew Cooper, Cynthia Cuba, Jesse Dornan, Jennifer Hallsey, Yen Hsiang-Ten, Kristi Jilson, Andrew Kuebeck, Zac Lopez-Ibanez, Yoko Noguchi, and Islay Taylor.
Stewart holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in jewelry design from East Carolina University and is the creator of the artist cooperative, Kobo, located at 33 Barnard St. in downtown Savannah. Her work has been featured in National Geographic Traveler, Deep magazine, Lucky magazine, Elegant Bride and the Savannah Magazine.
