posted by twowheelPR

Saturday, April 19
3 p.m.
Forsyth Park

Hop on your bike and join the first monthly installment of Savannah Wheelie — a casual, social slow paced bike ride to enjoy the sights, sounds, and people of Savannah. Bring your cruiser, your old ten speed, your fixie, whatever you like to pedal and
ride the Historic Downtown Bikeway. Don’t forget to bring the kids! The Wheelie will be a parade under pedal power. Helmets are strongly encouraged.

The more the merrier!

About the Savannah Bicycle Campaign:
LEVEL TERRAIN, GREAT WEATHER and tree lined streets: A great town for bicycles. So it would seem, though we face obstacles to riding every day—poorly maintained bikeways, lack of appropriate parking, aggressive motorists, uninformed police.
There is no group in Savannah working to advocate for the rights of cyclists, nor indeed to promote the bicycle as an efficient alternative to motorized transportation. We aim to change
all of that, and hope that you will join us. What we are about is promoting bicycling generally, for recreation, for transportation, for fun! One obstacle to that is safety, or the perception that bicycling is inherently unsafe on the
roads we have. There are many cases where this is in fact true, but also some good existing routes. Our objectives are to work
through the political process to develop more and better bicycle facilities for Savannah—improved bike lanes, racks, and
signage—and to develop a public campaign to educate bicyclists and drivers about safe practices on and off the roadways.
Ultimately, we hope to foster an inclusive approach to make our communities more livable, connected, and safe.
