International Design Award Winner and Developer Barbour Pointe Gives Back to the Environment
SAVANNAH, Georgia (June 2, 2008) - Salt Creek, LLC, the developers of Barbour Pointe, a Coastal Conservation Community, was honored with an international award from the Design Green Project in the Design Green category.
Barbour Pointe is the first Earth Craftä certified community in Coastal Georgia to incorporate low impact site development, independently certified energy and resource-efficient homes, community solar power generation, and preservation of riparian buffers and green space in a pristine environment. The developers kept this focus in mind when developing their marketing materials used to promote the development. Instead of creating several different pieces, energy and resources were conserved by creating a versatile larger piece that serves as a brochure, press kit and multifunctional package to house a variety of information. This marketing brochure was printed on FSC Certified Virgin, 80% post-consumer fiber paper with soy-based ink.
The Design Green Award rewards creativity in packaging, print, branding, fashion, art, environments, photography and green design. Each company who submitted a design ultimately helped the Global Warming Crisis by being a part of the solution, rather than the problem. Fifty percent of the proceeds were donated to the StopGlobalWarmning.org fund, every entrant received a fluorescent light bulb and a tree was planted in their name. According to Gregg Bayard and Curry Wadsworth, principals in Salt Creek, LLC, “our primary goal and objective at Barbour Pointe was to construct a built environment that coexists with the natural, existing site ecosystem rather than apart from it and we wanted our advertising materials to fall within that same goal. We are very excited that our efforts have been recognized.”
