Even our organizations are brimming with originality! You’ve heard us say it before: Savannah’s a virtual melting pot of non-profits and a whole host of other organizations. And since there are so many creatives in town, it only makes sense that some of them are going to be, umm, well – Creative.
The cSpot
Funny name? Thanks…we helped think of it. The “C” is for Creative. “Spot” refers to a central “spot” (literally and figuratively) for folks to meet and network (get your mind out of the gutter.) A “cSpotter” is one of a slew of creative professionals who got tired of seeing each other only once or twice a year. So they created a group. And called it cSpot.
AWOL All Walks of Life, Inc (AWOL)
These guys are some of our favorites. AWOL, Inc. is Savannah’s first and only spoken word (poetry) and hip-hop based youth development organization. How cool is that?! Their mission is “to promote and provide self-awareness through the use of Poetry, Hip-Hop and Life.” Founder Tony Jordan works with the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Housing Authority of Savannah to reach out to kids and teens that really need a creative outlet. AWOL’s staff and volunteers give these and other area youth a space that is available afternoon and night that encourages respect, creativity, education and most of all non-violence.
