With five employees and 50 some-odd computers, BlueLime Studio is a high-tech company that functions, and functions well, in a small (big) city that’s connected in all the right places.
BlueLime owners Ken Elwood, Chad Warner and Scott Swenson met at the Savannah College of Art and Design (former professor + students). They were looking for a high-tech haven, a place to open shop… a place to call home. Theirs is a computer-generated business, making almost photographic, architecturally correct 3D models of interiors and exteriors for architects and sales clients.
They’ve got clients from all over: Dubai, Bermuda, Bahamas, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Georgia, everywhere, you get the picture… So it doesn’t matter where they do what they do.
“We can live in a smaller city, but do business all over the world.”
All they had to decide was where they wanted to live. They chose Savannah. For Elwood, it was easy. “This is a comfortable city so why would we relocate?”
They’ve got a super sophisticated niche market, residential and commercial, making renderings, internet graphics and cd-roms. They don’t even have to market themselves – word-of-mouth gets out (and around the country) pretty fast.
“We can do our business from anywhere, but we’re happy to be in Savannah.”
We don’t have traffic, no nasty, big-city stresses, and as much business as anyone can handle. And then some. They’re doing okay just where they are.
