Getting Creative about Communications
Clark Creative
Clark Creative first opened her doors on Broughton Street in 2004 and soon moved to a quaint residential area, converting a two-story townhouse to offices for seven. A company with a feminine identity – due in part to its matriarchal owner and creative director Cari Clark – Clark Creative excels in visual communications, specializing in brand development, marketing & advertising, sales promotion, packaging and web.
“As design and marketing professionals, we work to translate creative, concepts, and insights into brands with personalities that work hard,” says Clark. “We are believers of the “Big Idea”, but are advocates in making those ideas a reality through activation. Most recently, our agency received recognition as the 2008 Business of the Year from Buy Local Savannah.”
Clark came to Savannah like others before her to pursue a bachelors of arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). It was at SCAD that she came to fully realize her passion for graphics design, a field in which she earned experience during her four-year stint at a local printing company. For Clark, Savannah always held professional promise, so choosing to stay and plant roots wasn’t a difficult decision.
“To be quite honest, while in school, I had thought about moving to San Francisco or Washington, DC upon graduation,” Clark explains. “I even pursued this through interviews and visits to design firms and museums."
“When it came right down to it, I realized that all I ever needed and want out of life is right here.”
“Savannah offers a world of opportunity, variety, people, art, food – all the cultural experiences I can dream up are right here. Plus, the airport is only 20 minutes away if I just have to get out of town.”
Cari Clark’s passion for customer service excellence led her to start her own business and lead a team, thereby allowing her to ensure that clients came first, at whatever expense. It didn’t take her long to understand and harness Savannah’s best kept secret: talented labor.
“With our business located in Savannah, we have little to no need to promote vacancies and employment opportunities,” boasts Clark.
“There is so much talent here with the surrounding universities and creative minds being developed by SCAD, I’m never in search for a great photographer or illustrator for long. ”
Clark and her team of world-class talent that has produced award-winning concepts and design work including their work with the Savannah Bee Company developing their brand and communications (1999-2007), which has been published in Southern Living, Oprah Magazine, InStyle Magazine and The New York Times, among many others. When she isn’t busy getting creative at work, she’s astride The Creative Coast Alliance in putting on “The cSpot” – the local social networking group for creatives – a group she helped start along with fellow TCCa-er, Fitz Haile.
“I’ve found that other creatives share my passion for quality of life and the relaxed yet productive pace of the area and they too have made Savannah home,” says Clark. “Actually, seeing a large crowd of several hundred creative minds at an event that I didn’t know, I thought ‘why don’t I know more of these folks?’ Enter cSpot – a networking event for creatives where the sole focus is to meet other like-minded people.”
Outside of Clark Creative and cSpot, Cari Clark stays busy serving in numerous civic capacities. She recently rolled off as president of the Savannah Downtown Business Association, a role that she was well-suited for: “Working in Savannah provides me with opportunities I just don’t think I could garner in other markets.”
“The connectivity between business, casual networking and our unique downtown environment is the perfect recipe for business success.”
