STATEMENT OF JOB: The Multimedia Editor will serve an integral role on Savannah magazine’s editorial team, managing the magazine’s voice and reputation in the digital world and in the greater Savannah community. Specifically, the Multimedia Editor will be responsible for expanding the reach and awareness of the Savannah magazine brand through its digital assets, marketing, social media and community events. Success in this position is measurable — namely, it is constituted by key audience expansion goals among readers, viewers and followers.
REQUIREMENTS OR SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Degree in journalism, marketing or communications is desired.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Previous editorial and marketing experience with proficiency in social media marketing is preferred.
MANUAL OR MOTOR (MACHINE) OPERATIONS: Valid driver’s license, good driving record and a reliable vehicle required.
RESOURCEFULNESS: Candidates for multimedia editor should possess a positive, professional attitude, as well as self-motivation, curiosity and good humor. This position requires a tremendous amount of innovation and initiative to extend Savannah magazine past the page through our digital and social media outlets and at community events. Above all, candidates for multimedia editor must be versatile and persuasive storytellers, capable of managing assignments and deadlines as they engage online and in person with all levels of magazine staff, community and business leaders, advertisers and readers, and the general public, all with the express goal of growing a devoted audience. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, WordPress, email and social media platforms, such as Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, SnapChat and Twitter.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in the field and in a workspace/cubicle within a large open office with frequent interruptions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Develop and maintain content for savannahmagazine.com and southerncoastalweddings.com. Content should expand upon the print products and include original articles and multimedia products to bring the pages of the magazine to life.
Develop partnerships with other businesses, organizations and media outlets to provide additional original content, to maximize our resources and to extend our reach and profile.
Assist advertising and management team in developing strategies for increasing digital audience and revenues.
Coordinate event coverage, calendars and Seen photography for editorial coverage of community gatherings. This task will involve recruiting event photographers and overseeing the input of that coverage in a timely fashion to the websites.
Marketing and social media marketing
Work with the editor and associate editor in conjunction with the publisher to develop a targeted marketing plan for Savannah magazine’s portfolio of products, including Savannah magazine, Savannah HOMES magazine and Southern Coastal Weddings magazine, and their allied websites. This plan will guide an issue-by-issue strategy for increasing subscriptions, improving newsstand sales and website and social media roll-out.
Produce and distribute a weekly editorial newsletter with the express goal of generating increased website views and greater engagement with readers. Assist the production and roll-out of sponsored newsletter content.
Serve as an editorial liaison to the community, filtering content feedback and delivering brand messages via social media.
Use a variety of social media platforms to engage and interact with readers, advertisers and followers, developing a voice in keeping with the magazine’s brand to raise awareness, grow the audience and leverage marketing efforts.
Special events and promotion
Assist in developing new opportunities for marketing Savannah magazine, including partnerships, promotions and giveaways.
Assist the publisher in maintaining crucial relationships with magazine clients, including the Chamber of Savannah.
Deploy marketing messages in all available media, including but not limited to broadcast, radio and Savannah magazine’s digital and social media portfolio.
Maintain an event calendar and coordinate magazine presence at community-wide engagements, including signature magazine events such as the annual Best of Savannah party, the New Guard event and issue-specific launch parties.
Increase visibility in the community by attending networking opportunities, distributing magazines at sponsored events, and staffing booths at trade shows and special events.
Write stories for print in all three magazine titles
Stay on top of trends and opportunities in magazine publishing and digital media.
Work with editor-in-chief to compose brand messages and brainstorm new initiatives as part of the marketing team.
Create unique content for magazine clients, including sponsored/branded projects and specialized publications.
Assist in the production of digital products, including newsletter, web applications and website design
Maintain the digital Savannah magazine shop portal and manage the shipping of magazines, as well as attending to customer service requests/requirements as needed.
