The Systems and Network Technician is responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of all information / computer systems at the school, their associated networks, data and voice communications, sound systems, video systems, and access to the Internet. This encompasses all hardware and software associated with these systems.
The Systems and Network Technician assists the Director of Operations and Finance in establishing goals for the coming academic year and in establishing a budget and plan to achieve those goals.
Distribute and keep current policies concerning computer systems, email, and Internet usage.
Ensure compliance to computing policies. Take immediate corrective actions to remedy violations.
Review all purchases related to areas of responsibility to ensure compatibility to existing systems and consistency with established goals.
Contribute baseline data in budget development for his/her area.
Ensure IT database is kept up-to-date.
Manage contract and 3rd party personnel as it relates to this position.
Manages the help desk function.
Maintain all computer hardware including documentation.
Maintain computer peripheral hardware including documentation.
Maintain network (local area and wide area) hardware and documentation.
Maintain software and documentation. Perform all upgrades and ensure software license compliance.
Maintain inventories of all hardware and software under his/her control including associated documentation and licenses.
Optimize system performance, to include file servers, application servers, network, and workstations.
Monitor network and system security. Ensure anti-virus and firewall software is current and that logs are reviewed daily.
Perform incremental system backups daily. Perform total system backup monthly.
Install software and software upgrades on applications and operating systems.
Manage relationship/account with Managed Services Provider.
Identify opportunities for utilizing technology to improve operations and/or reporting efficiencies.
Carry out special projects as it relates to automation and/or computer systems and networks.
Ensure physical security of critical equipment.
Ensure controlled environment for systems including power.
Support all users of the systems within their area of responsibility.
Maintain log of problems and corrections.
Train users on use of systems and applications as required.
Follow up on reported problems to ensure user satisfaction.
Administer maintenance contracts of hardware and software under his/her control.
Upgrade and/or install all software.
Reports to the Director of Operations and Finance. Interacts with system users, suppliers, and contractors on a daily basis.

Associates degree in technical field or equivalent work experience.
Three or more years working in an information systems environment.
Demonstrated technical competence in networks, computer hardware, operating systems, and software tools utilized by Benedictine in day-to-day operations and project work.
Solid understanding of core technologies, including networking, computers, operating systems, and database/information systems
Proficient in Microsoft operating systems – server and workstation.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Proficient in Microsoft Exchange Server.
Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude
Strong analytical skills
Work is regularly performed in an indoor environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and climb ladders. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, salaried position. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., although there may be some flexibility. The position requires the ability to work during non-standard hours as necessary.
No long-distance travel is required for this position; local travel will be required to pick up supplies, or to deliver and pick up equipment or parts for repair.
